In keeping with tradition established during the three-year production runs of the first three Thunderbird generations, Ford Motor Company released a new Thunderbird line for 1964-1966. Commonly known as the Flair Bird or Jet Bird, the new Thunderbird retained the same basic structure and dimensions as before yet featured completely revised styling with an aggressive Raptor-like frontal treatment, lengthened hood, and sculpted fenders, plus a bold new rear treatment with taillights housed withing a full-width chrome bumper. This new Thunderbirds were very well received by buyers at launch in 1964, a landmark year when the entire Ford line earned
Motor Trend magazine Car of the Year honors. Thunderbird buyers agreed, with the new models generating a strong sales bump to 92,465 units for 1964, including 60,552 Hardtops, 22,715 formal Landau models, and 9,198 Convertibles.
Sporting a rare and very attractive pagoda Green paint finish over white leather upholstery, this first-year Jet Bird is the handsome product of a high-quality restoration with outstanding fit and finish. The landau body style is relatively rare for 64 as one of 22,715 examples produced. Ample power is delivered by a 390 CI Thunderbird V-8 engine delivering 300 factory-rated horsepower with 10.1:1 compression and a Holley 4-barrel carburetor via a Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission. The Thunderbirds factory-specified color combination is original to the car and indicated milage is currently 14,255 miles at the time of writing. Features and options are many, including power-operated front bucket seats, plus power-assisted brakes and steering and power windows. A modern Retrosound Bluetooth radio delivers upgraded audio entertainment and looks factory-stock. Factory-optional front lap belts are another desirable touch, along with the innovative, factory-optional Tilt-A-Way steering column. Full-size mounted spare wheel/tire are included, along with a lug wrench and roadside jack, plus the original radio, shop manual, brochures, and an owners manual.
In addition to its fabulous styling and sporting luxury, the fourth-generation Thunderbird is sought-after by marque collectors for their great driving dynamics and effortless cruising characteristics.
