Following its TR5 and American-specification TR250, Triumph launched its new-for-1969 TR6 in late 1968. A masterpiece of evolution over revolution, the new Triumph featured new frontal styling and a neat Kamm-style rear panel designed by German coachbuilder Karmann, while the doors and windscreen were carried over from the Giovanni Michelotti-styled TR4 and TR4A. Retaining the well-proven body-on-frame construction and 2.5-liter twin-carb 6-cylinder engine of the outgoing TR250, the TR6 enjoyed immediate acceptance and strong demand from sports-car fans, particularly in North America. In its road-test report,
Road & Track magazine editors described the TR6 as a distinctive combination of qualities at a reasonable price, praising its excellent engine, surprisingly luxurious interior and easy-to-operate folding top. Steady improvements were made throughout TR6 production in response to tightening emissions and safety regulations in Triumphs important North American markets. Production ended in 1976 and today, many enthusiasts regard the TR6 as the last of a long line of fun and affordable postwar British sports cars.
Handsomely finished in Blue over a Saddle-trimmed cockpit, this collector-grade two owner TR6 is equipped with the very rare removable hardtop and a tonneau cover. Performance is heightened considerably with upgraded Stromberg triple-carbs and a great-sounding aftermarket exhaust system which delivers a fabulous and highly responsive driving experience. The exterior is harnessed by a freshly installed set of new black wall radial tires surrounding factory slotted steel wheels with polished trim rings. A handsome aftermarket steering wheel and beautiful wood grain dash greet the driver. Power brakes and an AM-FM radio are other desirable amenities.
