As the successor to the DB7, the V-12 DB9 debuted at the 2003 Frankfurt show with chiseled bodylines in sleek coupe and in Volante convertible body styles. As the first Aston Martin constructed at the company's Gaydon, UK facilities, the DB9 was designed by industry legends Ian Callum and Henrik Fisker.
Made largely of lightweight aluminum, the DB9 was based on Aston Martin's revolutionary 'VH' (Vertical/Horizontal) chassis, also utilized by the DBS. However, the 6.0-liter V-12 DB9 engine was contributed by another Aston Martin model, the V12 Vanquish. The Volante convertible retained the same basic chassis as the DB9, stiffened to maintain chassis rigidity. Rollover protection is provided by strengthened windshield pillars and a pair of automatically deploying "pop-up" roll hoops behind the rear seats. Ride and handling characteristics were enhanced by somewhat softer springs and specially tuned anti-roll bars front and rear. The DB9 Volante's folding top requires just 17 seconds to be raised or lowered and the Volante's weight was held down to 130 additional pounds.
The DB9 coupe and Volante share the same semi-automatic and automatic gearboxes and engine; however, the Volante is speed-limited to 165 mph to retain the soft-top's integrity at speed. As for the DB9 coupe, the Volante delivered 450 horsepower and peak torque of 420 lbs-ft. Despite the Volante's additional weight, 0-60 mph acceleration times were only slightly blunted at 4.9 seconds. Once released for sale, the DB9 was rightly praised by motoring journalists for its design excellence, ride and handling, supercar-level performance, and overall driving experience.
Handsomely finished in Tungsten Silver with a Black convertible top over rich Black leather upholstery, this 2008 Aston Matin DB9 Volante clearly benefits from the care of just three Carfax-verified owners from new, the third since May 2017. Just 23,726 miles are accumulated at the time of writing. Beautifully preserved and presented throughout, this DB9 Volante also benefits from dealer service since new. The front of the vehicle is well protected from the elements and the road by paint protection film. New tires were installed in 2022.
