The 6-series refers to two generations of automobile from BMW. The first was the E24 launched in 1976 to replace the 3.0CS & 3.0CSi and was designated the 630CSi. The 635CSi debuted in 1980 with a larger displacement engine. Both of these models were fitted with SOHC, 6-cylinder engines, but had superb performance nevertheless. In 1983 BMW upped the ante with the M635CSi, or M6. The M6 featured the DOHC, 24-valve engine taken from the BMW M1. An all new 6-series was introduced in 2003 and filled the void left in the lineup since the end of the 8-series production. The present iteration of the 6-series boasts a long list of performance and safety features. Active Roll Stabilization, adaptive headlights, all-aluminum suspension and active steering are the most notable. The coupes from BMW have always been an exciting drive and a pleasure to behold.
