Following up on the beautifully styled and highly responsive Spider 1750 Veloce, Alfa Romeo released what is surely the marques definitive sports car, the 2.0-liter Spider 2000, in 1969. Retaining much of its predecessors sexy, projectile-like body styling by Pininfarina, the Spider 2000 was updated with an aero-efficient and very stylish Kamm tail and the formerly recessed headlamps were now exposed. Powering the 2000 Spider was Alfa Romeos lusty and great-sounding DOHC 2.0-liter four delivering heady top speeds approaching 125 mph. By 1976, the model name was simplified to Spider Veloce and production continued with detail updates and stylistic and interior refinements steadily applied throughout production.
