Following up on the beautifully styled and highly responsive Spider 1750 Veloce, Alfa Romeo released what is surely the marques definitive sports car, the 2.0-liter Spider 2000, in 1969. Retaining much of its predecessors sexy, projectile-like body styling by Pininfarina, the Spider 2000 was updated with an aero-efficient and very stylish Kamm tail and the formerly recessed headlamps were now exposed. Powering the 2000 Spider was Alfa Romeos lusty and great-sounding DOHC 2.0-liter four delivering heady top speeds approaching 125 mph. By 1976, the model name was simplified to Spider Veloce and production continued with detail updates and stylistic and interior refinements steadily applied throughout production. Unlike many of its competitors, the Spider and its eventual companion models the Spider Veloce, Graduate and 4-valve Quadrifoglio successfully navigated the rapidly changing times and regulatory demands of the 1970s and 1980s, seemingly defying time throughout a lengthy production run extending through 1993 along four distinct series. Today, these wonderful driving machines enjoy new demand among sports-car enthusiasts for their renowned driving experience, of course delivered with a welcome dash of pure Continental flair.
Named after the 1968 blockbuster movie
The Graduate, which introduced Alfa Romeos soon-to-be conic Spider to North America, this 1989 Spider Graduate is an exceptionally well-preserved survivor with just 28K indicated miles and 2 owners from new. Featuring very rare Triple Nero (Black) livery including all original paint, it clearly benefits from proper garage storage and features upgraded chrome wire wheels, twin amber fog lamps, and a Blaupunkt radio. Power is delivered by Alfa Romeos highly responsive DOHC 2.0-liter four and a 5-speed manual gearbox, with vital signs monitored by a set of Jaeger Italia instruments. Along with a convertible top-boot cover and toolkit, a clean Carfax report verifies this high-quality Alfa Spiders uncommonly excellent history. Highly original examples of these incredibly fun and responsive driving machines are quite rare today, epitomized by this example from 1989. Dont miss out!
