Launched in its native France as the Floride (Florida) in 1959 and introduced to the United States as the Caravelle that December, Renaults new sporty model was available in both hardtop coupe and dashing convertible body styles. Determined to make a splash in the lucrative American sports-car market, Renault showed the new Caravelle at New Yorks famed Waldorf-Astoria hotel and 17 other major cities simultaneously. Advertised as A dream car come true, the Caravelle was named after the fast French jet airliner of the era and delivered an abundance of pure Continental glamour to American drivers fortunate enough to experience this sophisticated French sports car first-hand. Based on Renaults popular Dauphine sedan, the Caravelle featured independent suspension, front disc brakes (1963-on), and a rear-mounted 4-cylinder powerplant that would eventually displace 1,108cc and develop 51 brake horsepower with late-production Caravelle S cabriolets offered from 1963 to 1968.
Exceptionally well-presented, this rare, late-production 1967 Renault Caravelle S Cabriolet benefits handsomely from an impeccable, Concours-level restoration that simply must be seen to be believed for its excellence and attention to detail. As well finished underneath as the topside, this Caravelle S features highly attractive Lilac paint over a black interior, accented by tasteful and glossy brightwork. Desirable features include an AM radio, heater, and folding convertible top. Most recently, the Caravelle was given a transmission rebuild, a new engine main seal, and a new clutch. Beautiful throughout, this rare Caravelle S is completely rust-free, and less than 24k miles are indicated at the time of writing. Accompanying items include a tool roll with a proper retaining strap. If youre looking for a break from the ordinary, this 1967 Renault Caravelle S cabriolet offers a great alternative to the far more common European sports cars populating todays collector car marketplace. Experience it for yourself by calling us today for further details and to arrange a viewing and test drive. Were confident you will make it yours!
