Offered from 1964 through 1967, the Catalina 2+2 was Pontiacs potent full-size performance car with room for up to five, available in both hardtop and convertible body styles. Featuring the performance-oriented GM divisions Wide Track chassis design and aggressive styling, the Catalina 2+2 was a separate Pontiac series for 1966 and packed a punch with a standard 338-horsepower 421 cubic-inch V-8 with a 4-barrel carburetor engine, low-restriction exhaust, chrome air cleaner and valve covers and a 3-speed manual transmission with Hurst shifter. Other standard 2+2 highlights included heavy-duty suspension, full carpeting, bucket seats, a Sports Custom steering wheel, non-glare inside rearview mirror, and vent-like rear-fender trim. Available rear-end rations included 3.08:1, 3.23:1, and 3.42:1 for a great combination of low-end acceleration and high-speed drivability. Optional powerplants were 421-based across the board for the 1966 Catalina 2+2, delivering 356 HP with triple 2-barrel carburetors and a wilder version pumping out 376 rated horsepower. Both 4-speed and Hydra-Matic transmissions were available for the 2+2, with most equipped with the automatic. Production was quite low, reaching just 6,383 examples including only 1,495 2+2 convertibles for 1966.
This rare 1966 Pontiac Catalina 2+2 convertible benefits handsomely from a high-quality restoration including an exterior color change to Black over stunning red upholstery and front bucket seats. The powertrain has been upgraded to the top optional 376-horsepower 421 V-8 engine with triple carburetors, mated to a 4-speed manual transmission with Hurst floor shifter. Other excellent highlights include power brakes, power steering, a power-operated convertible top, pushbutton radio and dash clock, plus an 8,000-rpm tachometer. Riding on a gorgeous set of Hurst 5-spoke wheels mounting 1960s-style Redline tires, this outstanding and rare 1966 Pontiac Catalina 2+2 convertible is accompanied by documents supplied by Pontiac Historical Services confirming factory-original data.
