Launched for 1960, the Corvair was a truly unique automobile and a daring leap for Chevrolet. Initially offered with a wide array of body styles including sedans, convertibles, and wagons, plus van and pickup variants by 1961, the Corvair provided buyers with a technically sophisticated alternative to the Volkswagens and other small European cars imported in growing numbers to North America during the late 1950s/early 1960s. Fun-to-drive and agile, the Corvair featured an air-cooled flat-6 engine at the rear and fully independent suspension. Interestingly, the Corvair and its early success motivated Ford Motor Company product planners to spearhead the compact Falcon-based Mustang. Corvair styling was thoroughly revised for 1965 and continues to age very well among todays collectors and enthusiasts seeking a less-common and more-affordable classic vehicle to show and drive. The 1966 model year would be the last for three Corvair series ranging from the 500 to the Monza and Corsa. Offered in 2-door hardtop Sport coupe and 4-door hardtop Sport Sedan body styles, the 500 delivered traditional Chevrolet value with abundant standard and optional features.

This Corvair 500 (Series 101) Sport Sedan is one of just 8,779 examples produced with the handsome 4-door hardtop body style. Powered by the optional 110-horsepower version of the Corvairs air-cooled 164 cubic-inch Flat-6 engine, this Sport Sedan also features Chevrolets 2-speed Powerglide automatic transmission with a dash-mounted T handle shift lever. An outstanding and exceptionally original survivor with 74k miles at time of listing, this Corvair Sport Sedan retains a highly original and attractive Artesian Turquoise paint finish and well-preserved original Turquoise interior featuring front bucket seats plus an AM/FM radio, telescopic steering column, and handsome wood-rimmed steering wheel. A full spare wheel/tire and roadside jack are included. Freshly serviced and detailed, this 1966 Chevrolet Corvair Sport Sedan is a very nicely preserved survivor that is sure to please with exceptional integrity and that irreplaceable feel only a highly original and unrestored car can possibly deliver.
