COLLECTOR-GRADE MOTORING ICON
Designed under Dr. Ferdinand Porsche during the 1930s and officially known as the Type 1 Sedan, Volkswagen's Beetle evolved from Porsche's prewar KdF-Wagen design and returned to production almost immediately after the return to peacetime in Europe at the urging of British Major Ivan Hirst. Constructed with unwavering quality standards and a succession of subtle, yet important, improvements, the Beetle was imported to North America through 1979. Much like Henry Ford's Model T, the Beetle was truly an affordable People's Car and efficient mass production, worldwide exportation, and unmistakable design made the tiny VW an instant motoring and cultural icon. In many ways, the late 1950s and early 1960s were perhaps the company's greatest. Its conquest of the North American market, trendsetting advertising by the "Mad Men" at Madison Avenue's Doyle, Dane, Bernbach, and worldwide distribution all contributed to the Beetle's massive popularity that continues even stronger today.
Out of the Beetle's amazingly long production run, the 1965 edition is particularly collectible and enjoyable with many welcome updates including vastly improved visibility with 15 per cent more glass area than before, plus more comfortably contoured seats and improved heating. Accompanied by certification from Volkswagen's Stiftung Automuseum in Wolfsburg, Germany, this truly rare unrestored and exceptionally original 1965 Volkswagen Beetle is offered with just under 32,000 original miles at the time of writing. Wonderfully preserved and presented, this Beetle clearly benefits from storage in a climate-controlled environment and as offered, it looks great in it's all original Panama Beige paint with an exceptionally nice Grid Brown two-tone leatherette interior, which includes an OEM AM radio. The matching numbers, air-cooled 1,200cc flat 4-cylinder engine is paired with Volkswagen's renowned 4-speed manual gearbox/rear transaxle for a fun and economical classic driving experience. Offered with a Volkswagen instruction manual and tool kit, this 1965 Volkswagen Beetle Sedan is an outstanding, collector-grade example throughout.
