In February of 65, a young man from Oklahoma ordered a new car through The Auto Europe dealer in Chicago. His name was Charlie, and the car was the all new Sunbeam Tiger! He ordered the car in Carnival Red with a black interior, then checked these additions on the order; an ammeter, locking gas cap, luggage rack, seat belts, and undercoating. He also opted for overseas delivery in Antwerp Belgium, followed by a brief tour of Europe before having the car shipped back to Oklahoma where it stayed until recently. Charlie and his family kept the car covered in the garage, with the exception of the occasional drive around town to stretch her legs! Thanks to proper stewardship, this Sunbeam is in remarkable condition, fully earning is survivor classification. The Carnival Red exterior is deep and lush, showing very little wear. Panel gaps are correct, as original, and the doors shut crisply. Inward, the all original black interior is an absolute time capsule! The wood dash shows little cracking, and the gauges all shine like new. The seats, door panels, and carpeting all look barely used as well.
Pop the hood and marvel at the Carrol Shelby designed engine layout. The Ford 260 was pushed as far back into the chassis as they could get it to keep the weight centered. This example is untouched and was clearly maintained well. The original air cleaner is intact, along with other components too. The Mark I, 260 V8 was good for producing 164 horsepower and 258 pounds of torque, backed by a fully synchronized 4 speed transmission, more than making for a spirited driving experience! Currently this car is fully serviced and drives as good it looks!!
