As the successor to Jaguar's 2.4- and 3.4-litre saloons of 1955-59, the updated Mk II debuted in late 1959 and was produced through 1967. A luxurious, wood-trimmed alternative to conventional family cars, wrapped in a trim and sensuous package, Jaguar's Mk II and its predecessors stand among the world's first true sports sedans. For 1960, performance was heightened with the optional new DOHC 3.8-liter 'XK' engine, rated at 220 horsepower. Additional performance features included a tachometer, limited-slip differential, four-wheel disc brakes, and a four-speed gearbox with overdrive or Borg-Warner 3-speed automatic. In competition, the Mk II was a formidable performer in the best Jaguar tradition that set new speed records and won the Tour de France 4 years straight (1960-63). It comes as no surprise then, that the Mk II was the preferred getaway car for London's most notorious gangsters of the '60s, matched by police in their own stripped Jaguar 3.8s.
Retaining its matching numbers engine and cylinder head, this handsome 1965 Jagua Mk II is an original 3.8-liter car with left-hand drive and former long-term Californian ownership. As offered, it benefits from a detailed mechanical and cosmetic restoration completed in 2010 by Vintage Autoworks in Tucker, Georgia, including a repaint in Old English White, complete interior restoration in red leather, an engine rebuild, and installation of an upgraded aluminum radiator. Further comprehensive mechanical attention was performed by Classic Coachworks in Monterey, California during 2016 and 2017, including driveline upgrades, updated power steering, rebuilding of the brakes and suspension, carburetor rebuilding, and reconditioning of the fuel system. The Jaguar's handsome styling is enhanced by refinished interior wood veneers, proper bright trim, and gorgeous chrome plated wire wheels with eared knockoffs, Blackwall Vredestein tires, and of course, the beautiful Mk II radiator grille and iconic "leaper" mascot. Housing the potent DOHC 3.8-liter 'XK' engine, the engine compartment is tidy, well-detailed, and correctly equipped. The trunk is stock in appearance, well-finished, and equipped with a matching wire wheel. The undercarriage is exceptionally solid and clean, showing care and cleanliness consistent with the entire vehicle. In addition to extensive service records and restoration documents, this outstanding 1965 Jaguar Mk II 3.8 is accompanied by an owner's manual.
Featuring the most desired performance features offered by the Mk II, this exceptionally well presented example offers the driving ease of its automatic transmission and updated power steering, in addition to the professionally rebuilt engine and mechanical systems. Offered with all the expensive and hard work already completed, this 1965 Jaguar Mk II is certainly one of the finest examples of its kind and ready to own, collect, and enjoy.
